Heritage Aid Network provides a multitude of programs to assist refugees who have been resettled in Charlotte, NC. Our focus areas include
Refugees often seek an American friend to practice their English, explore Charlotte, and get answers about life in a new culture. Our Fruitful Friends Program pairs American volunteers with refugee families to provide mentorship and friendship.
Our Refugee Help Center provides a variety of assistance to refugees, including sorting and understanding mail, making telephone calls, completing government forms, and receiving fresh produce. We also offer family literacy opportunities, craft workshops, and more.
We offer free Refugee 101 Workshops a few times each month. This workshop is required for becoming a volunteer, but it is also open to anyone who wants to learn more about the current worldwide refugee situation and how it impacts us here in Charlotte, NC.
Heritage Aid Network sponsors fun events for our refugee friends and collaborates with other local agencies for some programs and events, such as World Refugee Day and Deer/Game Delivery.
Our self-sufficiency workshops include Nutrition & Cooking, Home-Buying & Credit-Building, Voting Clinic, Financial Literacy, Family First Aid, Personal Hygiene, and Home-Cleaning Tips & Techniques. These workshops are designed to help refugees become self-sufficient and integrate successfully into their new community.
Our Love & Learn program provides a safe, loving, and nurturing environment for refugee families, including an indoor classroom and an outdoor playground. We aim to promote a love for learning and creative play for all children.
